In this disassembly guide I take apart an HP Pavilion x360 14m-dh1003dx laptop. It’s very likely this guide will work for some other models in the HP Pavilion x360 14m computer line: 14m-dh0001dx, 14m-dh0003dx, 14m-dh1001dx and some others.

At the time of writing this article (November 27, 2019), this is the latest version of HP Pavilion x360 m series. It’s equipped with a 10th generation Intel Core i5 Quad-Core processor.

Some of the HP Pavilion x360 14m-dh1003dx design features that make this model easily upgradable:
– The motherboard has two memory slots.
– The laptop comes with a 256GB NVMe M.2 SSD but has a bay where you can install an additional 2.5″ hard drive.

For this disassembly you will need the following set of tools: tweezers, Phillips screwdriver #0, thin metal case opener tool.

STEP 1.
Remove four screws securing the bottom cover.
Two screws are hidden under the rear right and left bottom feet.

In order to access the hidden screw you’ll have to peel off one side of the foot.

STEP 2.
Using a case opener tool pry up the bottom cover.

STEP 3.
Continue removing the bottom cover with your hands. You’ll have to apply some reasonable force to unsnap the cover from the hidden latches.

STEP 4.
Remove the bottom cover completely.

STEP 5.
Remove five screws securing the battery.

STEP 6.
Lift up the battery to disconnect it from the motherboard.

STEP 7.
Remove the battery. I would strongly recommend disconnecting the battery before working with the internal laptop components.

HP part number L11421-423.
HP spare part number: L11119-855.

This laptop has a 2.5″ hard drive placeholder. You can upgrade the laptop storage by installing an additional 2.5″ solid state drive. For this upgrade you will need to find the hard drive mounting bracket and SATA cable.

STEP 8.
There is a small latch securing the hard drive placeholder on the left side. Release the latch and remove the placeholder.

Under the hard drive place holder you can access the finger scanner.

STEP 9.
There is an adhesive aluminum shielding covering the PCIe NVMe solid state drive.
Peel off the the shielding from the M.2 slot on the motherboard.
Remove one screw securing the solid state drive and pull it out.

Here’s the other side of the drive, it’s an Intel PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD.
HP spare part number L67774-001.

Both memory slots are hidden under the metal RAM cover.

STEP 10.
Carefully lift up one side of the RAM cover to separate it from the metal clamps on the motherboard.

STEP 11.
Lift up the RAM cover.

Now you can access both memory slots. This particular HP Pavilion x360 14m-dh1003dx laptop was configured with only one 8GB memory module. I would definitely upgrade the memory to at least 16GB. According to Crucial this model supports up to 64GB (2x32GB) DDR4-2666 SDRAM.

STEP 12.
The power button is located on a separate board and can be easily removed.
Remove one screw securing the power button board and disconnect the cable.

Here’s how to disconnect the power button cable.
Lift up the locking tab located on the connector (red arrow) and pull the cable out (yellow arrow).

STEP 13.
Remove the power button.

Replacement power button available here: https://ebay.to/39X6bgJ

The DC power jack is mounted under the right display hinge.

STEP 14.
Open the display 180 degrees and remove two screws securing the display hinge to the top case assembly.

STEP 15.
Lift up the display assembly just enough to access the DC power jack.
Disconnect the DC jack cable from the motherboard and remove it.

I’m not going to remove the display in this guide but it’s not difficult.
In order to remove the display assembly you’ll have to remove five screws securing the hinges and disconnect the webcam cable (orange), the wireless card antenna cables (yellow) and the display cable (green). After that you should be able to separate the display from the top case assembly.

The touchpad also can be easily removed and replaced if necessary.
